The Matterhorn Museum in the heart of Zermatt takes you back to the Alpine world of past centuries. Here you can discover how the people of Zermatt lived in the 19th century. The sight of the torn rope used for the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865 is a thrill. At that time, four of the seven climbers in the rope party lost their lives. Allow 2 hours for a complete and rewarding visit.

The village of Zermatt has been closed to traffic since 1961. It is a symbol of tradition but also of modern tourism. This tour will reveal a village with many facets. Barns and haylofts dating back over 500 years contrast with modern buildings. The tour is guided and translated into several languages. Duration: about 1 hour.

The Gornergrat (3'120m) is the must-see of the region. The Alpine panorama and the unique view of the Matterhorn are unforgettable. The world's first cogwheel railway and currently Europe's highest will take you from Zermatt station (1'620m) to the Gornergrat summit in 33 minutes. No walking or effort is required. Altitude precaution only! Recommended equipment: good walking shoes or sneakers - sun protection - sunglasses - hat - small rucksack - warm jacket and rain gear (K-Way). A lunch box can be brought along for an additional EUR 15.-.


HIKING ON THE RIFFELSEE TRAIL

The superlative photographic site or the place where the Matterhorn is reflected in the Riffelsee, surrounded by a pristine landscape and adorned with small rocks. An idyllic sight. The world's first cogwheel railway and currently Europe's highest will take you from Zermatt station (1,620m) to the Gornergrat summit in 33 minutes. After a panoramic stop at the Gornergrat (3'120m), you take the train back to Rotenboden (2'815m), then take the footpath to the Riffelsee (2'759m), before continuing to the Riffelalp station (2'211m) where the train takes you to Zermatt. The walk is a gentle, very easy one, lasting 30 to 40 minutes. Caution regarding altitude only! Recommended equipment: good walking shoes or at least good boots with profiled soles to protect the ankles - walking sticks if possible for the slippery dirt paths in case of rain - effective sun protection - sunglasses - hat - small rucksack - warm jacket and protective clothing against rain (K-Way). The price includes the return trip by cogwheel railway. A lunch box can be brought along for an additional EUR 15.-.


EASY HIKE ON THE FURI TRAIL

An easy hike in the shade of the larch and arolla trees. The view of the valley and the mountains is a marvel for the eyes. The walk takes between 1.10 hours (normal walk) and 1.30 hours (slow walk) for 4.9 km. The lowest point is at 1'608m (Zermatt) and the highest at 1'865m (Furi). The walk is really easy, accessible to everyone. The price includes a simple gondola ride, before starting the walk.


HIKING ON THE ZERMATT - ZMUTT CULTURAL TRAIL

The Zermatt-Zmutt Cultural Trail has 14 stages along its 3.7 kilometres. It tells the story of rural life 100 years ago. You will discover various agricultural buildings in a rural cultural landscape and a village from the Middle Ages. The oldest granary in Europe, built in 1261, is still preserved. The starting point is in Zermatt (1'620m) and the finishing point in Zmutt (1'936m). The hike is easy and takes about 2.5 hours. The first part of the walk is uphill (1h-1h30). Recommended equipment: good walking shoes or boots - sun protection - sunglasses - hat - small rucksack - small jacket and rain gear (K-Way). The price includes a simple gondola ride, after the walk back to Zermatt.


HIKING ON THE 5 LAKES TRAIL

The 5-Lake Trail is the ultimate hike in the Zermatt Alpine world. The Matterhorn is reflected in three mountain lakes. The view of the numerous peaks is breathtaking and the hiking trail is rich in variety. The path leads to the Stellisee (2'584m), Grindjisee and Grünsee (2'130m) lakes. The 9.8 km route is easy to medium in difficulty and takes about 3 hours. The hike begins after taking the Alpine railway and the cable car. After the tour you return to Zermatt by Alpine railway. Caution regarding altitude only!
